2009-10 This is a federally-funded program that is administered by ISAC. New functionality that allows colleges to submit Robert C. Byrd Honor Scholarship Program (Byrd Scholarship) payment requests via the My Zone portal of College Zone is now available. Beginning fall 2009-10, the Byrd Scholarship online payment process replaces the paper process with a secure, electronic method of transmitting payment claims data and enrollment exceptions for the Byrd Scholarship. Students who display on the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Eligibility Certification/Payment Request Roster screen are new and renewal Byrd scholars who have certified that they continue to meet the program requirements and indicated your college as where they will attend during the 2009-10 academic year. Information that a college must enter on the Byrd Payment Roster View screen is a combination of the paper version of the Byrd Scholarship Eligibility Certification/Payment Request Roster and Payment Exception form. Students who haven't returned a 2009-10 Eligibility Certification form indicating that they continue to meet the program requirements will not display in My Zone. Colleges will not be notified each time there is Byrd Scholarship activity at My Zone; therefore, colleges are encouraged to check My Zone regularly for new Byrd Scholarship payment request rosters that have not yet been submitted to ISAC. Refer to Payment Procedures for the Byrd Scholarship within this section and the Robert C Byrd Honors Scholarship Payment Roster page in My Zone for details about the payment process. Most schools participating in the Byrd Program have a My Zone sign-on used to retrieve Default Aversion Assistance Request (DAAR) information from ISAC. Colleges that do not currently use ISAC's My Zone system should contact School Services to obtain a sign-on. Refer to Assigning a My Zone Administrator page within the My Zone portal, to learn about setting up an administrator and assigning sign-ons and passwords for staff. Encourage your colleagues who work with the Byrd Scholarship Program, and especially those from non-Illinois colleges, to subscribe to the College Zone Financial Aid Administrator e-Messaging system, so that they won't miss any future announcements or updates from ISAC. In order to receive updates regarding the Byrd Scholarship Program, be sure to sign-up for the "Financial Aid Director" and/or "Financial Aid Administrator" subscription groups. ISAC sent eligibility letters, the Eligibility Certification forms and Rights and Responsibilies documents to new and renewal Robert C. Byrd scholars in April, 2009. Completed Eligibility Certification forms were due back to ISAC on July 15th so that their college will be able to request payment on their behalf for the 2009-10 academic year. ISAC has extended the deadline to receive Eligibility Certification forms until August 20, 2009. A Notice of Disqualification will be sent to applicants who do not return the Eligibility Certification form on or before August 20, 2009. If an Eligibility Certification form is not returned by the deadline, it will be assumed that the student is refusing the scholarship and eligibility will be forfeited. |
