	Who Should Apply? The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) administers two teaching scholarships to encourage students to become teachers. The two scholarship programs are the Illinois Future Teacher Corps (IFTC) Program and the Minority Teachers of Illinois (MTI) Scholarship Program. The IFTC Program is for students who plan to teach at a nonprofit Illinois public, private or parochial preschool or an Illinois public elementary or secondary school. The MTI Scholarship is for minority students who plan to teach in a nonprofit Illinois public, private or parochial preschool, elementary or secondary school that has no less than a 30% minority student enrollment. Each program has specific eligibility requirements and award determination criteria. One of the provisions for each scholarship is that after graduation or termination of enrollment, you must teach according to the requirements of the scholarship within a certain time frame, or the scholarship becomes a loan. Read all the information provided with the online application to learn about each teacher scholarship program. Talk to your college advisor about your plans to become a teacher and talk to the financial aid counselor on your campus to learn about the application and eligibility requirements, deadlines, and the teaching requirement you must fulfill if you are awarded a scholarship. Becoming a teacher is a significant educational commitment. Accepting either of these scholarships is also a serious financial commitment—if the teaching requirement for the scholarship received is not completed, you will be left with a loan that must be repaid.
