A grant is a type of “gift aid” that does not need to be paid back. The amount awarded is usually based on financial need and is generally provided by the government, or the college your child plans to attend. By submitting the FAFSA, your child is automatically applying for the following grants – the State of Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) and Silas Purnell Illinois Incentive for Access (IIA) grants (for Illinois residents), the Federal Pell Grant (Pell), and the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG). Contact your child’s college financial aid department about the grants they may receive. Illinois Grants
