Apply To College
Once your child has narrowed the list of colleges down to those of most interest, it’s time to start the application process. It’s wise for your child to apply to several colleges. Keep in mind, applications take time, usually aren’t free, and admissions due dates vary from college to college. Generally, your child should apply one year before attending college.

When determining how much time your child will need to apply for college, consider the due dates for each requested document. Most schools require your child to send high school transcripts and letter(s) of recommendation. Remind your child to allow sufficient time for writing essays and doing any other paperwork that may be necessary. In order to complete the process by the September before starting college, your child should have lists of potential colleges at least one and a half years before college starts.

Applying to colleges may seem overwhelming to your child. But with your help and guidance toward taking the right steps and by starting early, your child will be able to meet the challenge. Use the Parent’s Application Timeline to keep on track. And have your child use the Student’s Application Timeline.
