Overall Grade Improvement Not Reflected in National Math and Reading Test Scores
2/23/2007

According to a February 23, 2007 article from The Associated Press, the overall grade point average for high school graduates has increased over the past 15 years, from 2.7 (1990) to 3.0 (2005). However, national test scores in math and reading have not shown corresponding improvements. Experts are not certain whether the higher grade point average is a result of improved student performance, grade inflation, or other factors. The National Center for Education Statistics plans to review the rigor of U.S. high school courses.
