According to a February 6, 2007 article from The Washington Post, several schools in the Washington, D.C. area are trying to encourage college-bound students to take steps to reduce their overall stress levels. Many parents are also trying to foster a less stressful approach to education for their children. Students are being discouraged from taking multiple Advanced Placement (AP) courses while also participating in several extracurricular activities, and are being taught to carefully consider how much time each course or activity will require prior to choosing it. Washington-area high school counselors are reminding their college-bound students that there are many excellent colleges from which to choose, thus reducing the pressure to be accepted into an Ivy-league school.
