A January 26, 2007 article from The Associated Press reports that more public schools across the nation are separating classes by gender. In some schools, only a few classrooms are limited to one gender; others have classes divided by gender throughout the school. There are currently more than 250 U.S. public schools that offer classes separated by gender. Those who support same-gender classes believe the environment allows students to learn better and be less distracted. Some critics, however, think more benefits would be gained by decreasing class sizes and increasing educational funding.
