An October 23, 2006 article from The Washington Post reports that traditional grammar instruction is slowly making a comeback in school curriculums. Since the 1970s, the common practice has been to teach students grammar through the act of writing, rather than having isolated lessons specifically for grammar instruction. In recent years, however - especially since writing components have been added to college entrance exams - traditional grammar lessons are slowly becoming more accepted. One factor that may prevent traditional grammar instruction from making a full comeback is the fact that, because they were school children in or after the 1970s, many of today's teachers were never taught the basics of grammar.
