Using Video Games to Encourage Students to Learn
10/19/2006

An October 17, 2006 article from The Associated Press reports that the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) is calling for federal research to determine how students' enjoyment of playing video games might be used as a new education tool. Because the successful mastery of many video games requires skills that are also needed in the business world - including analytical thinking, multitasking and solving problems under pressure - scientists are interested in developing new games that foster higher levels of achievement in students. The eventual goal would be to market educational video games directly to schools, rather than to consumers.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site. Further information can be found at the FAS Summit on Educational Games page.
