High Rate of Volunteerism Found Among Today's College Students
10/17/2006

According to an October 16, 2006 article from The Associated Press, today's college students are more likely to do volunteer work than were students in previous years. Many individuals who were high school students during the events of September 11, 2001 now, as college students, are choosing to volunteer their time to help others. Between 2002 and 2005, there was a 20% increase in the number of college students who volunteer - this is more than twice the overall rate of increase for all volunteers. It is estimated that nearly one-third of all college students volunteer. The article is based on a study that was recently released from the federal Corporation for National and Community Service.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site. A corresponding press release, which includes a link to the full report, is posted at the Corporation for National and Community Service Web site.
