Many College Students Take Heed of Friday the 13th
10/12/2006

According to a study published in the June 2001 edition of the College Student Journal, many college students try to avoid having major academic events (such as exams or term paper due dates) fall on Friday the 13th. The likelihood of a college student experiencing paraskavedekatriaphobia, or a fear of Friday the 13th, appears similar to that within the general population. The study is based on a sample of nearly 900 students who were enrolled in a Kent State University Introduction to Sociology class at some point during 1998 or 1999. The authors suggest that college professors should be aware of when Friday the 13th occurs during the academic year, and not have assignments due on those dates.
