Researchers Question Student Activity Levels in Typical Gym Class
9/21/2006

According to a September 20, 2006 article from The Associated Press, on average high school students are active for only 16 minutes during gym class. Students are sedentary for the remainder of the gym period, often because they are participating in activities that do not require constant movement (for example, softball). Experts believe that simply increasing the length of gym class will not help - rather, changes are needed in the curriculum that would keep students active for at least half of the time.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site.
