New Federal Law Seeks to Curb Childhood Obesity Rate
7/14/2006

According to a July 13, 2006 article from The Associated Press, a federal law that took effect on July 1st requires public schools to have written wellness policies in place by the start of the upcoming school year. Wellness policies are to outline the implementation process for nutrition and exercise goals. The law's primary focus is to reduce the national rate of childhood obesity. Because school boards have wide latitude within the law, the manner in which public schools combat childhood obesity will vary across the nation.
