Some Families, Counselors Surprised When Students Not Admitted to College of Choice
4/11/2006

An April 10, 2006 article from USA Today reports that high school seniors, who have applied to college for next fall, are being denied admission or placed on wait lists at higher rates than in previous years. The ability to submit applications online makes it easier for students to apply at multiple colleges. Consequently, admission staff must choose their freshman class from among a larger pool of applicants. High school counselors indicate that, in some cases, colleges are not admitting students who they likely would have accepted in previous years. This trend is being seen at various colleges across the nation, not only those traditionally viewed at "elite."
