A March 24, 2006 article from Inside Higher Ed reports that several elite colleges across the nation are committing significant financial resources for programs designed to encourage high-ability, low-income students to enroll. Some colleges are offering free tuition, room and board to academically qualified students whose total family income is below certain thresholds. Higher education experts hope that other colleges will witness the success of these initial programs, and decide to offer similar incentives on their campuses.
