Florida Considers Requiring High School Students to Declare Majors
3/24/2006

According to a March 23, 2006 article from USA Today, the State of Florida is considering a bill which would require high school students to declare a major. Already passed by the Florida House, it will now be considered before the Florida Senate. Those who support the bill, including Florida Governor Jeb Bush, believe the process of declaring a major will keep students interested in school and better prepare them for college. Opponents, however, fear that being "locked in" to a major will place too much pressure on high school students.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
