U.S. Colleges See Significant Increase in Application Volume
2/15/2006

A February 13, 2006 article from USA Today reports that colleges across the nation are seeing an increase in the number of applications received. Because colleges have a larger pool of applicants from which to choose, a smaller percentage of high school seniors are being admitted to their first choice college. Also, more applicants are being placed on wait lists until colleges can determine how many students actually accept their admission offers. Experts believe the increase in application volume is due to the widespread use of online applications, as well as the growing popularity of a standard form known as the Common Application.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
