A February 6, 2006 press release from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) provides highlights of President Bush's FY2007 ED budget request. The FY2007 ED discretionary appropriations request of $54.4 billion represents a 5.5% decrease from the FY2006 level, due in part to the fact that last year's funding level was increased by one-time costs associated with Hurricane Katrina relief.
