Homeland Security Helps Elementary School Students Prepare for Emergencies
2/3/2006

A February 2, 2006 article from The Associated Press reports on a program from the Homeland Security Department aimed at teaching fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders how to prepare for emergencies, such as natural disasters or terrorist attacks. Part of the department's Ready campaign, the goal is to encourage children and their parents to have plans in place in the event of an emergency. Classroom teaching materials have been provided to middle school teachers in large metropolitan areas, and the Ready Kids Web site features a mountain lion mascot named Rex.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
