Illinois Schools Serving Students Displaced by Hurricanes May Be Eligible for Grants
1/9/2006

A January 6, 2006 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announces that President Bush signed the Hurricane Education Recovery Act into law on December 30, 2005. This legislation authorizes grants to offset costs for public schools and school districts assisting children who were displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Details about the grants, including links to applications that must be completed for grant consideration, are provided within the press release. There is a separate application that must be completed by parents/guardians of displaced children attending recognized nonpublic (private) schools; no action need be taken by parents/guardians of students enrolled in Illinois public school districts.

The press release, which includes a link to the Hurricane Education Recovery Act, is available at the ISBE Web site.
