ISAC is pleased to announce that the interactive application for 2006-07 Teacher Education Scholarship Programs (TESP), used to apply for the Illinois Future Teacher Corps (IFTC) Program and the Minority Teachers of Illinois (MTI) Scholarship Program, is available at collegezone.com. These resources will assist you with questions you receive from students regarding the TESP application process.

The Student Zone provides applicants with direct access to details about the IFTC Program and MTI Scholarship Program. ATTENTION: Replacement HSSP Announcement Rosters for Potential State Scholar Finalists
Sent to Principals/Superintendents/Administrators and High School Counselors/Teachers on November 2, 2005.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) recently mailed the High School Scholarship Programs (HSSP) Announcement Roster for Potential State Scholar Finalists. The rosters, dated October 29, 2005, mistakenly listed 2005-06 student data. Replacement rosters dated November 1, 2005 and corrected with 2006-07 data, along with a listing of students who were considered but not selected as eligible finalists, are being mailed to appropriate Illinois high schools today. Please destroy the roster dated October 29th, and use the November 1st roster for reporting purposes.

The November 1st roster allows one final opportunity to identify eligible students who may have been missed up to this point or to exclude students who are named as potential finalists in error. Detailed instructions are available within the HSSP - Potential State Scholar Finalists section at collegezone.com.

As a reminder, changes or corrections to HSSP Announcement Rosters are due to ISAC on or before November 18, 2005. If no changes, corrections or deletions are submitted, then the students that appear on your school's November 1st roster will be the same students that appear on the Final Roster that you will receive at the end of November.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this error. If your school does not receive a replacement roster dated November 1st, or if you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact ISAC's School Services Department as indicated at the bottom of this message.

Fall Update Sessions - Register Now
Sent to Principals/Superintendents/Administrators, High School Counselors/Teachers,  College Admission Counselors and Community Organizations on October 4, 2005.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission is pleased to announce a series of training events designed to provide our partners in promoting access to higher education with the tools and information needed to better reach your college-bound students. This fall, at locations throughout the state, we will be offering Update Sessions designed especially for high school counselors, college admission counselors and community organization professionals. These half-day, free-of-charge sessions will focus on the intricacies of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and student eligibility for financial aid, as well as the new dynamic functionality of IllinoisMentor at collegezone.com, which will be available this December.

Last year, during our Fall Seminars for Partners, we heard from participants that what you needed most was more in-depth information about the FAFSA, need analysis and the special circumstances facing your students. With that in mind, we have developed an intensive review of the FAFSA with a special emphasis on the dependency questions, the worksheets and eligible noncitizens. Ample time will be provided for discussion, allowing participants to share their own questions and examples.

You also indicated last year that you were very excited about our new free service, IllinoisMentor at collegezone.com, and the integrated Counselor Center. In this year's IllinoisMentor session, learn how the Counselor Center helps you save time and better serve your students by letting you view and manage individual student information. For example, you'll be able to see the careers and colleges students are researching, learn how to attach letters of recommendation to students' online admission applications and send student transcripts electronically. Also, you'll learn more about the Transcript Exchange and how your school can participate.

How to Register

Registration information is available online in the Outreach and Training area of the e-Library. Check the dates and locations (including a new site at South Suburban College University and College Center in Oak Forest that was added after the Communique was mailed) for the session that best meets your needs. Addresses and parking information for each location are also available. Space is limited at each site, so please register early. Continental breakfast and registration begin at 8:45 a.m., and the event will run until 12:30 p.m.

Information about the sessions, including sites that are full, will be sent via College Zone's e-Messaging service. If you're not already an e-Messaging subscriber, now is the perfect time to take advantage of its convenience. You can sign up through the front page of the Counselor Zone.
