A November 16, 2005 press release announces that a national early childhood education policy group has recognized efforts by the State of Illinois and Governor Rod Blagojevich. In a recent report, the Pre-K Now organization cites Illinois as one of three states demonstrating a "spirit of cooperation" between the legislature and governor in supporting early education. Economic projections indicate that, over the long term, every $1 invested in early childhood programs benefits society by more than $7, based on increased earnings and decreased interaction with the justice and social service systems.
