According to an October 12, 2005 press release from the U.S. Department of Education (ED), Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings has announced the availability of Tips for Helping Students Recovering from Traumatic Events. This new booklet provides guidance for parents, teachers, and others who are helping students impacted by natural disasters such as the recent hurricanes in the Gulf area. In addition, a series of roundtable meetings are taking place to obtain input from mental-health experts, teachers and school officials regarding the impact of Hurricane Katrina on students and schools.
