A September 22, 2005 article from The Chronicle of Higher Education discusses how, among students displaced by Hurricane Katrina, those from affluent families may be finding it easier to immediately continue their education than their less advantaged peers. Although many colleges across the nation have opened their doors and offered free tuition to displaced students, individuals who were struggling to pay for school prior to the hurricane may find it even more difficult now - especially if their homes and jobs also fell victim to Hurricane Katrina. The expense of relocating to a new college in another part of the country may also prohibit low-income students from continuing their education.
