A September 1, 2005 article from The Associated Press discusses how many college students impacted by Hurricane Katrina are finding other colleges around the country are offering ways to help displaced students continue their education. According to the American Council on Education, up to 100,000 college students in the New Orleans area have been affected, and serious damage has been sustained by three dozen colleges in the region. Governor Blagojevich has announced that Illinois residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina may continue their college educations at Illinois community colleges.
