Summer School for Children of Migrant Workers
7/27/2005

A July 25, 2005 article from The Associated Press spotlights a summer school program that is available to the children of migrant workers in New Jersey. Offered to children whose ages range from toddler to teenager, the program is free to migrant worker families. Because the parents of children in the program move often in order to follow employment opportunities, teachers in the program try to have as much influence as possible during a short period of time. Of the estimated 860,000 children of migrant workers in the United States, approximately 550,000 receive some form of federally-subsidized education.
