Too Much Television May Impact Test Scores

According to a July 5, 2005 article from the Chicago Sun-Times, recently-released studies indicate young children who watch too much television do not perform as well as their peers do on tests. Details of the studies are published in the July 2005 edition of the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. While critics are concerned with the fact that the studies do not consider the content of programs being watched, experts contend that the findings support arguments against allowing children to have televisions in their bedrooms. The article points out that separate studies have shown some educational television, such as the Public Broadcasting System's "Sesame Street," may benefit child development.
