According to a press release dated June 29, 2005, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has gained approval from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) for changes in the implementation of the federal No Child Left Behind law in Illinois. Together with Governor Blagojevich, ISBE worked for changes in order to more fairly hold schools accountable and measure progress under the federal law. Most of the approved changes, which are listed in the press release, will be effective for tests taken this spring. One additional change, which involves moving the beginning date for determination of a full academic year, will be effective for tests taken in 2006.
