Teacher Wages Increase Less Than Inflation Rate
6/28/2005

A June 24, 2005 Associated Press article reports that, on average, increases in teacher salaries have not kept up with the national inflation rate. The average salary increase for teachers during the 2003-04 academic year was 2.1%, while the 2004 inflation rate was 3.3%. While efforts are sometimes made to offer incentives to those who teach in the positions that are hardest to fill, sufficient funding is not typically available to increase teacher salaries across the board.
