Offering Healthier Options at School
6/8/2005

A Reuters article dated June 3, 2005 discusses how schools throughout the United States are looking for ways to offer more nutritious options to their students. Trying to address the rising level of obesity and weight-related illnesses in children and adolescents, a growing number of parents, doctors, and government officials are advocating the removal of "junk food" from schools. Sugar-based sodas, corn dogs, hot dogs, and pizza are among the offerings that many parents would like to see replaced with healthier options. The article reports that, in the past two decades, the number of overweight children has doubled for ages 6 to 11 and tripled for ages 12 to 19.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site.
