An April 15, 2005 Inside Higher Ed article reports on a recent study from the Educational Policy Institute, which compared the affordability and accessibility of several industrialized countries. Among the 15 countries included in the study, the United States ranked 4th in accessibility and 13th in affordability. The Netherlands were 1st in accessibility, and Sweden was 1st in affordability. The authors of the report indicate that one of the most important pieces of information gained from the study is the fact that there does not appear to be a direct correlation between affordability and accessibility for higher education.
The article is available at the Inside Higher Ed Web site, and the full report is available at the Educational Policy Institute Web site.
