Teachers Avoiding Red Ink
4/7/2005

An Associated Press article dated April 4, 2005 reports that, in order to have written comments appear less intimidating to students, many teachers are now avoiding the use of red ink when grading assignments. Some parents complain when teachers use red pens, indicating that receiving a paper with many red marks causes stress for students. In place of red, purple ink is emerging as the new favorite among educators. In response to increased sales, some of the leading pen manufacturers have increased the production of purple pens.

The article is available at the Chicago Sun-Times Web site.
