Social Networking Tools May Help College Students Become More Engaged in Academics

According to a November 19, 2009 article from Gannett News Service, community college students who regularly use social networking resources (such as Facebook or Twitter) for academic purposes (for example, to communicate with professors or other students) tend to be more engaged in their education than are students who use the technology solely for non-academic reasons. Despite these findings, which are based on a recent Center for Community College Student Engagement report, the article indicates that many community colleges have not yet fully utilized social networking to connect with students.
