A July 16, 2008 press release announces that the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is awarding more than $2.4 million in Illinois Even Start Family Literacy Program grants, which are designed to help the state's earliest learners, as well as their families, improve literacy skills. The focus of the program is on parents and children (from birth through age 7) of low-income families. The grants, which are awarded to 17 educational partnerships, are made possible through federal funding as part of No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
