Revised 'Electric Company' to Encourage New Generation of Students to Read
5/12/2008

A May 12, 2008 article from The New York Times reports that, starting in January 2009, PBS will begin airing new weekly episodes of "The Electric Company." Like its 1970's counterpart, the updated program will seek to make children (aged 6 to 9 years old) excited about reading. Prior to January, areas of the country with significant low-income, low-literacy populations will be targeted for an extensive awareness program. The project will be funded in large part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, through the U.S. Department of Education.

The article is available at the Web site of The New York Times.
