Many Colleges Utilizing Risk Assessment Teams
4/16/2008

An April 15, 2008 USA Today article reports that, in the year since the tragic events that took place at Virginia Tech, an increasing number of colleges across the country have either developed a campus risk assessment team or enhanced a team that already existed. Such teams meet on a regular basis to review reports (submitted by various members of the campus community) concerning potentially disturbed students. Psychologists, college faculty and administrators, and police are often members of the risk assessment teams. Colleges, student advocate groups, and others (including entities such as MTV) are also developing campaigns to encourage troubled students to seek assistance, rather than becoming isolated due to a fear of the stigma that is sometimes associated with mental health issues.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
