Teens are Expert Procrastinators

According to an article penned by a high school correspondent in "The Voice" section of the State Journal-Register (Springfield, Illinois), most teenagers have perfected the art of procrastination, especially as it pertains to homework. Although teens cite their busy schedules - sports, clubs, after-school jobs - as part of the reason for putting off homework assignments, they also concede that they feel schoolwork is boring and having fun is a higher priority for them.

One teacher quoted in the article believes that being involved in more than just school activities helps students become more responsible overall, and that "students should do something that makes them happy." Teachers and students both agree, though, that student procrastination can lead to a noticeable drop in grades, impacting the ability to get into a good college. Even so, teachers report that only a small percentage of students actually do their homework early.
