College Admission Counselors Encourage Parents to Let Students Take Lead
2/7/2008

A February 4, 2008 CNN article reports that college admission professionals across the country are seeing an increase in 'helicopter parents,' who are highly involved in their student's college application process. While these parents are trying to protect their children, experts fear they may actually be setting students up for failure later in life. When well-meaning parents oversee the college application process, their students may have a difficult time adjusting to college life once they are on their own. Students who are allowed to take control of their own college application process learn to deal with stress and conflict while also gaining a sense of independence and self-confidence.
