Impact of Federal No Child Left Behind Law on Illinois Schools
12/26/2007

A December 26, 2007 article from The State Journal-Register (Springfield) reports that the federal No Child Left Behind law is due for reauthorization by the U.S. Congress. Experts indicate that, since its inception approximately six years ago, the law has prompted some positive results in Illinois schools. Educators have gathered data about specific demographic sub-groups which may allow them to better serve these students. Some concerns have been raised, however, over the costs associated with meeting the requirements outlined in the federal law. Critics fear that, because so much emphasis is placed on reading and mathematics, resources are not available for subjects like art and music.

The article is available at The State Journal-Register Web site.
