A December 14, 2007 article from The Associated Press reports that, according to a recent survey conducted at St. Lawrence University (New York), college students who stay up all night studying tend to have lower grade point averages (GPAs) than do their peers who get adequate sleep. Of those surveyed, the average GPA for a student who never pulled an "all-nighter" was 3.1, compared to 2.9 for those who had. Experts believe that lack of sleep interferes with the individual's ability to concentrate.
