Study Finds Longer Classes Result in Improved Math Scores

A December 10, 2007 USA Today article reports that, according to results of a recent study from the Brooking Institution, spending more time in class may improve student math skills. Examining math scores from 1995 to 2003 for eighth-graders in 20 countries, the study found that (with few exceptions) scores increased when classes were lengthened, and decreased when classes were shortened. More benefits are seen when school days are made longer, rather than increasing the number of days that students are in school.
