According to an October 9, 2007 article from The New York Times, more students are sending notes to college administrators to thank them for their admission interviews. The increase in thank-you notes leads some admission officers to question whether the sentiments are sincere, or merely another way to try and stand out among the pack of prospective students. High school counselors, who often encourage college-bound students to send thank-you notes after admission interviews, report that students and parents often disagree on what should be communicated in the notes. Many college admission officers indicate that, while sending the note is a nice gesture, it is not a key component in the admission process.
