New Laws Expand Protections for Elementary and High School Students in Illinois

An August 23, 2007 press release announces that Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has signed into law three bills aimed at making the educational environment safer for elementary and high school students. The new legislation includes a requirement for non-public schools to perform background checks on new employees, as well as measures to prevent bullying. All three laws go into effect immediately.
