According to a May 30, 2007 USA Today article, a federal advisory committee will release a new report on Friday (June 1st) with recommendations on how to control textbook costs for college students. Indicating that the existing system - where professors select the materials that students must purchase - creates a "structural flaw in the market," the panel suggests both short- and long-term changes. One idea being considered is a "national digital marketplace," where professors could review and select resources online and then students would be able to purchase those materials in a variety of formats.
