A May 21, 2007 article from The Associated Press highlights how colleges across the nation are using discarded items (left on campus by students) to benefit their surrounding communities. As college students graduate or head home for the summer, many leave unwanted possessions behind. Rather than paying to have the items - which often include gently used clothing, books, appliances and electronic equipment - hauled away, some colleges are instead donating them (or the proceeds from their sale) to local charities.
