5/14/2007

According to a May 11, 2007 Reuters article, governments around the world are struggling with how to ensure their citizens have affordable access to a quality higher education. An increasing number of college students worldwide are borrowing money to help cover educational costs. Several European countries, which for years have provided a university education at no charge to students, are now beginning to assess fees. The article indicates that America has the most expensive higher education system, with annual tuition averaging $5,800 at four-year public colleges and $22,200 at four-year private colleges.
