Volunteering Increases Odds of Attending College for Low-Income Students

An April 9, 2007 article from The Associated Press indicates that, according to a recent federal study, teenagers who participate in volunteer work are more likely to enroll in college. Some experts believe that volunteering increases the individual's level of self-confidence, which may be a factor when determining whether to attend college. Based on the study, low-income students who volunteer are approximately 50% more likely to believe they will obtain a college degree.
