Types of Colleges
Just  as every student is different, every college is different, too. Whether your student is applying to college for the first time or transferring to a new college, it is important to determine educational goals before researching college choices.

Some colleges are focused entirely on teaching a trade (technical and vocational colleges), and others require your student to take courses related to a specific major; plus math, science, literature, etc. (community colleges and four-year colleges). The profession your student plans to pursue will help decide which colleges are best suited to meet personal goals. If your student is not sure which profession to pursue, refer to the Occupational Handbook. Also, refer them to our College Criteria List for more help determining which college to attend.
