Your child should get to know their high school counselor right away and take advantage of what he/she has to offer. The counselor can help your child determine what he or she wants to do in the future, based on their skills and interests. He/she can also help choose a college that’s right for them, and help them prepare for that college by getting them into the right high school classes.
Your child will find many resources in their counselor’s office, including information on careers, information to help you determine what career might be right for you, information on available financial aid, and brochures and videos on different colleges. Plus, your counselor has plenty of information on upcoming events, such as assessment testing dates, college nights, career seminars and financial aid sessions. Your counselor is a great resource – make sure you take advantage of his/her expertise.
