The IFTC Program encourages academically talented students to pursue teaching careers in the State of Illinois. In addition to the selection criteria of cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), Expected Family Contribution (EFC), minority student status, applicants may receive additional award dollars if they agree to teach at hard-to-staff schools.
ISAC plans to use the existing school list compiled by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) for the teacher loan forgiveness and cancellation programs to assist in the definition of a hard-to-staff school. This listing is being provided as an example of schools that are currently considered hard-to-staff and is updated each year.
The teaching requirement can only be fulfilled at the Illinois public elementary and secondary schools on the list at the time the teaching obligation begins, or at nonprofit Illinois public, private, or parochial preschools.
